Wednesday 10 May, 7.30-9pm Burgundy & Black Coffee Bar, St Martins Walk, Dorking RH4 1UT
A free, open event – all welcome
The global divestment movement is asking investors such as pension funds to stop backing coal, oil and gas and invest in sustainable energy instead. Come and find out how this is gathering pace and what we can do to help.
Surrey County Council Pension Fund currently has £67 million directly invested in fossil fuels – £3 million of it in Canadian tar sands – the most polluting of all. Yet a number of local authority pension funds have already decided to divest from dinosaur fuels. A report published last week revealed that more than half of investors now see the risks of climate change – but there is still enormous resistance to managing climate risk.
The evening starts at 7.30pm with interactive workshops, followed by a video and two speakers, and will cover a mix of topics on all aspects of the global divestment movement.
The evening is hosted by Mole Valley and Epsom & Ewell Green Party as part of Global Divestment Mobilisation week – but it’s not a political event and all are welcome.
The venue is ten minutes’ walk from Dorking and Dorking Deepdene stations, and there is car parking nearby.
